After breakfast of porridge and char koai with coffee, we left to find Annai Velankanni Church some 45mins away from town, somewhere in the district of Sunggal. Our becak guy 'pak madan' was quite happy to take us there. The ride was not that comfy but we managed to hold on to dear life as pak madan weaves through the morning traffic.

The shrine of Annai Velankani was built in Medan, in the district of Sunggal. It was built by an Indian Priest, Father James, which explains the architecture of it. The building consists of 2 levels. The first level is a HALL / Meeting place, and the main mass room is in 2nd level.

In total, the church consists of 7 levels, making it looks like more to a Hindu temple than a church.
Other than its unique shapes and it being on 7 levels - though i am not sure where it starts or ends. We could not go further than the 2nd floor. The must-see item here is the decoration and painting on the ceilings / walls and all around. Inside the Church (where Mass is said) on the 2nd level, there are statue of the 12 apostles, attached to the pillar of the building. I am not sure but i think its 6 on each side.
Other interesting paintings that caught my attention are the 'Apparations of Mary'paintings on the ceilings. I was amazed at the beauty of the 'artwork' right up on the ceiling. You have to stand at an angle to get a good look at it. I was suddenly spellbounded, no, stupefied by the beauty of the artwork - i just had no words. Perhaps its something unexpected, i was not ready for it.
